What is information design?

Information design is centred on the idea of simplifying the complex — translating data into feasible information to be understood by the user. The training of an information designer includes visual design, technical communication as well as usability. The latter aspect is particularly important; a good information designer understands how to produce meaningful, effective content and deliver to the user in a comprehensible way.

Data is information in its raw form. It is up to information designers to take these facts, numbers and figures and translate them into meaningful copy and visuals that are digestible for the reader. In a world filled with an overwhelming amount of data, information designers are only becoming more and more indispensable.
